BUCHANANFPC SIGN (US SERVICE DOG REGISTRY)

Even though registration and certification are not required by the ADA, there is a high demand for a professional service that serves as a third-party validation for assistance animals and their handlers.  This is especially true for handlers of Service Animals who are specifically trained to help with deafness, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and other conditions that may not be immediately visible to others.  Thus, the United States Service Dog Registry (USSDR) represents the most democratic realization of an assistance animal registry to-date.

BUCHANANFPC SIGN (ADA LAW -- SERVICE ANIMALS)

Service Animals means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.  Other species species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or un trained, are not service animals for the purposes of this definition.  The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the handler's disability.  Examples of work or tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision with navigation and other tasks, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to the presence of people or sounds, providing non-violent protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, assisting an individual during a seizure, alerting individuals to the presence of allergens, retrieving items such as medicine or the telephone, providing physical support and assistance with balance and stability to individuals with mobility disabilities, and helping persons with psychiatric and neurological disabilities by preventing or interrupting impulsive or destructive behaviors.  The crime deterrent effects of an animal's presence and the provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship do not constitute work or tasks for the purposes of this definition.

Service and Assistance Animals can be trained through specialized programs, independent or private trainers, and/or THE PERSON WITH THE DISABILITY WHO OWNS THE SERVICE and ASSISTANCE ANIMAL.  It is against the ADA Law to require or demand that a person show proof that their companion animal is a Service Animal.

The ADA Law says that these special service and/or assistance animals can be any, breed, or size; and they may or may not wear specialized equipment.

Under HUD Regulations, both Service dogs and alternative Service and/or Assistance Animals are still protected. A Service or Assistance Animal used indoors may not be the same Service Animal utilized outdoors based on the new ADA Service Dog Laws.

His name was RENEGADE, and this website is about him and all his many friends.  At one time they were all homeless and abandoned.  Thanks to the Organization that is now named after him, their lives and the lives of many Disabled people changed.  They were taken off the streets, given lots of love and attention, and trained for their new jobs of helping their human neighbors.

On Halloween, October 31, 2007, RENEGADE was dressed for his all day festivities, when suddenly he became ill and unable to move.  He was immediately rushed to the vet, where we were told that he had a massive tumor in his abdomen that had ruptured his spleen.  They were told to remove the tumor and the spleen, as there is medication that does the job of the spleen.  However, we were told that it was too late, he was not going to survive.

Reverend Syndia-Gregoria (Powerchair Diva):

Aside from having multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, diabetes, severe arthritis, and a host of other medical delights, she has been for the past 22 years, and still is, a housing, tenant, and community activist;  she advocated, together with another community leader, Maria Gemma Todaro, for the rights of the homeless women at the Kingsbridge Armory Shelter For Women in 1987 and 1988, together with then Councilman, Jose Rivera, and his Assistant, Anna York; and the Director of The Housing Workshop, Ivine Galarza. Reverend Syndia-Gregoria fought against the intense drug and prostitution problem in the surrounding neighborhood of the Morris Heights Section of the Bronx, together with then activist Maria Gemma Todaro, and the undeniable assistance of the then Bronx Borough President, Fernando Ferrer (1988 to 2001), and the then City Council President, Andrew Stein. Reverend Syndia-Gregoria founded and was President of the Buchanan Tenant Association from 1988 to 1994 and was re-elected in 1998 for two more years.

She is a graduate of the CORO Leadership Collaboration Program IV (was recommended for this program by Aurea Magual of the Bronx Borough President's Office). Reverend Syndia-Gregoria founded Buchanan Foster Pet Care, a non-profit organization working to overcome the plight of the abandoned and homeless companion animal and at the same time fulfill the needs of the Disabled and Senior Community. All in all, Reverend Syndia-Gregoria, for many years rescued, trained, and advocated for Service and Assistance Animals. This inspiring woman has appeared on News 12 The Bronx; was written about in the New York Daily News; the Newsletter for Bronx Community Board 12; the Bronx EOC Staff Newsletter; and was involved and appeared on the 1994 Annual Report For The Associated Blind in support of the American Disabilities Act (ADA). Reverend Syndia-Gregoria also wrote several articles about Service and Assistance Animals in the EOC Student Newsletter and expanded her years as a Community Leader in her additional role as a voluntary non-profit consultant for starting out organizations and associations. In 2003, The Reverend became a Board Member for Pet-Abuse.Com, founded by Alison L. Gianotto. Also, that same year, Reverend Syndia-Gregoria became involved in the after school programs at the Harford County Libraries, in the State of Maryland, educating children and young adults about Service, Assistance, and Therapy Animals. During these educational sessions, many had the opportunity to meet and greet the Organization's Mascot, RENEGADE. Presently, through websites, blogs, and social media sites, Reverend Syndia-Gregoria is continuing to educate and advocate for Service, Assistance, and Therapy Animals.

Reverend Syndia-Gregoria and RENEGADE (Service Canine) together with the then Mayor of Aberdeen, Maryland (Mayor Wilson) was responsible for the Special Community Nomination and Award given to Doctor Wendy Dorothy Kloesz for her exclusive work and care for the patients in the Community of Harford County.

As references we will list Wilham Ronda of the Bronx Borough President's Office; Jim Waters of the New York State School of Special Education on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx; including anyone listed in the biography.

Reverend Rainette Murphy Lopez (Rennie Murphy -- Royal Irish Diva)

Being a Multi-Disabled individual has not placed brakes on Reverend Rainette (Rennie Murphy) from being a source of inspiration to those that know her, both far and near. Her energy transcends itself to the very core of those whom she advocates for. Reverend Rainette (Rennie Murphy) has a diversified experience level, which is vital to an organization outreaching to the public, businesses, and politicians for the Disabled Community and their Service Animals. More interesting and commending is the fact that she was the first female student at Martin Van Buren High School, located in New York City, to be able to enroll in Wood Shop and Auto Mechanics. Reverend Rainette (Rennie Murphy) petitioned the New York School District in September of 1972 to allow this and was successful at overturning a male only long standing rule.

In the late 1980's Reverend Rainette Murphy Lopez (Rennie Murphy) moved to the State of California and became engaged with the Community surrounding her.

During the 1990's and with the increasing violence in the streets of her community, she felt a compelling need to help by participating in a non-profit organization called Mad About Rising Crime, originally organized to establish what would be considered crime-resistant communities through education and outreach. From there she continued on a path to rid the world of abuses towards the disabled and became a founding member of American Alliance To End Handicapped Parking Abuses, created in an effort to reach across state borders, spearheading proactive campaigns for specific reforms in government regulations and law enforcement which fail to protect People With Disabilities PWD's regarding handicapped parking.  Their concept, as an organization, is that Handicapped People (PWD's) are a protected class of citizens in America whose basic civil rights in having equal access to parking are being denied.

This, however, is but only a fragment of who Reverend Rainette (Rennie Murphy) is. As a friend, soul sister, advocate for the disabled, and founding board member of Renegades Save Our Service Animals there is none other like her.
